Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega lead the cast of 'The Gallerist,' a dark crime comedy scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on December 4. Roadside Attractions and Vertical Entertainment acquired the U.S. rights to the film. The release date follows the movie's earlier debut at the Sundance Film Festival.
Cathy Yan directs the film, which she co-wrote with James Pedersen. The plot centers on Polina Polinski, a character played by Portman. Polina is a Miami art dealer preparing for a major presentation at Art Basel. Ortega plays Kiki Gorman, Polina's assistant. The story follows Polina as she gets tangled in a risky scheme. She tries to turn a shocking situation involving a dead body into a defining artistic opportunity.
The ensemble cast includes Sterling K. Brown, Zach Galifianakis, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Daniel Brühl, and Charli XCX also appear in the film. Portman serves as a producer on the project. She works alongside Jonathan King, Sophie Mas, and Ash Sarohia. The production companies behind the film are handling the release.
Yan is known for directing 'Birds of Prey.' This film marks another collaboration between the director and a high-profile cast. The genre blends comedy and thriller elements. Audiences will see the film on the big screen later this year. The late-year slot positions the art-world satire alongside other major holiday releases.
