The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night to take a 3-0 series lead.
The series began with the Brewers winning the first two games. On Monday, they extended their lead with a dominant offensive performance in the middle of the game. The team has now won eight postseason games in a row.
The decisive moment arrived in the fifth inning when the Brewers scored eight runs. Every run came with two outs. Brice Turang started the rally with a two-run single. Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, and Sal Frelick each hit for an RBI. Jackson Chourio added a double, helping the Brewers reach a 10-0 lead. Chourio finished the game 4-for-5 with an RBI. William Contreras and Turang also recorded three hits each. The Brewers total of 16 hits exposed defensive errors from the Rays and a rough outing from reliever Cam Booser.
Robert Gasser, a rookie left-hander for Milwaukee, pitched six scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three batters. Freddy Peralta started for the Rays and gave up five runs in 4 2/3 innings. The Rays prevented a shutout when Cedric Mullins scored in the ninth inning, but the team could not overcome the deficit.
Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday at Tropicana Field. The Brewers can win the World Series title with a victory. The Rays must win to avoid elimination and keep the series alive.
