New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson told reporters on Tuesday that he prefers winning games to remaining with his current team. Wilson spoke during a media session before the Jets faced the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8. He addressed persistent rumors that he could be moved before the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 10.

"I want to be here, man," Wilson said. "I want to win games and that’s the one thing we’ve been missing on here. I love it here. Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest, but I’m hopeful."

The Jets currently hold a 2-5 record, matching the Indianapolis Colts, who have already declared themselves sellers. Wilson has been with the franchise since the 2022 NFL Draft, where New York selected him with the 10th overall pick. His tenure includes 15 seasons without a playoff berth, the longest active drought in professional sports.

Wilson signed a four-year extension worth $130 million just over a year ago. The deal keeps him under contract through the 2030 season. His performance statistics have fluctuated recently. In the 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins, Wilson had only three targets from quarterback Geno Smith. He caught two passes for 26 yards. The Dolphins won the game, securing their first victory of the season.

The following week against the New England Patriots, Wilson recorded four catches for 44 yards. His frustration was visible on the sideline during the Miami game. He described the compounding effect of weekly defeats on his mindset.

"I’ve never been the best optimistic guy, but I’ve found a way and dug deep, and I’ve been optimistic for three, four, five years now. And that’s why these [losses] each weekend hurt a little more," Wilson explained. He noted that the losses feel heavier because of the duration of the team's struggles.

The Jets have a history of trading first-round talent to rebuild. Last season, they traded defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys. They also dealt cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts. Gardner signed a four-year, $120 million extension just before the trade. These moves demonstrate that no player is safe on a struggling roster.

Since joining the team, Wilson has watched the Jets post a 24-51 record. The worst single-season result was a 7-10 mark. Wilson acknowledged that his on-field performance is tied to the team's success. "I’d be lying if I said it's not," he said regarding his frustration with limited targets and losses. "But at the end of the day it comes down to .. winning and losing."

He added that when the team wins, he feels he has contributed to that success. When they lose, the outcome feels avoidable. "That's my main frustration that may show on the TV or something like that," Wilson said. He emphasized that his reactions stem from a desire to win rather than dissatisfaction with the city or the organization.
