New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's social media post has been viewed more than 7 million times since Friday. The video, posted on X, offers residents specific instructions on how to interact with federal immigration officials.

Mamdani, who identifies as a socialist, stated that the city's largest immigrant population needs clear guidance during what he called "very frightening times." He explained that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents cannot enter private spaces such as homes, schools, hospitals, or workplace areas without a judicial warrant signed by a judge.

The mayor reminded viewers of their right to remain silent. He provided best practices for handling encounters with federal agents, aiming to clarify legal boundaries for those living in New York.

Criticism emerged quickly from conservative leaders and commentators on social media. Many argued the video encouraged residents to obstruct federal law enforcement or implied that illegal immigration was acceptable. They contended the mayor was using his platform to coach non-citizens on evading deportation.

Representative Brandon Gill of Texas attacked Mamdani's recent citizenship status. Gill noted that the mayor became a citizen less than a decade ago. He questioned why a leader of the nation's largest city was spending time instructing "illegal aliens" in a foreign language on how to avoid lawful deportation.

Senator Mike Lee of Utah pointed out that the video never urged anyone to follow United States laws. Lee stated the guidance was not made for the benefit of the general U.S. population. Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio labeled the action "Treason." Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina added that anyone present in the country illegally is not a New Yorker.

Fox News commentator Tomi Lahren described the move as foreign-born Democrats instructing individuals on how to evade the law. Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton called the statement "dangerous incitement" and "disturbing falsehoods" by a "communist terrorist supporter." Fitton warned that the statement could put lives in danger.

Mamdani has consistently opposed the Trump administration's immigration enforcement agenda. During his campaign, he called for the abolition of ICE. He stated that the NYPD would not assist the agency with civil immigration enforcement. As mayor, he signed an executive order strengthening sanctuary policies. The order limits cooperation between city agencies and federal authorities. It also requires expanded "know your rights" materials for city employees.

Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani's office for comment on the viral reaction. The mayor's office did not respond immediately to the request.
