A Russian attack on a humanitarian aid site in southern Ukraine killed 29 people on Tuesday. Officials confirmed 48 residents are still missing as rescuers continue digging through the rubble of a destroyed shelter in the village of Komyushuvakha.

The strike occurred in the Zaporizhzhia region. Mykhailo Semikin, the acting head of the regional military administration, described the event as one of the worst tragedies for civilians in the area since the war began. He noted that the dead included four police officers and two rescue workers. At least five other people were injured in the blast.

Russian forces used bunker-busting bombs for the Monday attack. Semikin stated that the bombs contained nearly 1.5 tons of explosives. The Zaporizhzhia region has declared three days of mourning for the victims.

The aid site strike was part of a larger overnight wave of attacks. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched 289 attack drones, 17 ballistic missiles, and 59 cruise missiles across nine regions. He noted that the barrage coincided with U.S. elections. Zelenskyy said, “The Russians think America won't notice this signal of theirs.” He added, “We need to help Ukraine defend its skies; otherwise, Russia will never stop its missile strikes.”

Damage spread to other parts of the country. In the Kharkiv region, a combined missile and drone attack wounded at least 62 people. A medical facility in the Nemyshlianskyi district was damaged. Local authorities reported that more than 200 patients were transferred to other hospitals. In the Dnipro area, rescuers pulled one woman from the rubble on Tuesday morning after an attack killed one person and wounded 17. An outpatient clinic and a hospital sustained damage.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense said it shot down 856 Ukrainian drones overnight. Sergei Sobyanin, the Moscow mayor, said 493 drones were fired toward the capital. In Yaroslavl, a Ukrainian drone attack wounded two employees at an oil refinery. Regional Gov. Mikhail Yevrayev reported damage to the refinery's infrastructure.

Moscow-installed officials said rolling blackouts were instituted in the south, west, and east of Russian-occupied Crimea. The outages followed attacks on energy infrastructure.
