Undetecting officers were conducting surveillance near that location around 6:15 p.m. when they observed a man wanted on a narcotics arrest warrant. The officers noted the suspect displaying a firearm through his vehicle window before he began firing at them.
Police reported that Luna drove away and was involved in several collisions before his car struck a tree. He fled the scene on foot but collapsed a short distance from the crash site. Officers took him into custody and determined he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Luna was transported to a local hospital where his condition was listed as critical. Authorities indicated he is expected to survive. No officers were injured during the exchange of fire.
The suspect faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of possession of a controlled substance. The four officers involved in the incident have between eight and ten years of service. They have been placed on administrative duty pending further review.
