Emily Coleman, M.D., began her tenure as an assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine in Little Rock. The board-certified physician previously served as an assistant professor at Tulane University in New Orleans before joining the UAMS faculty in 2026.

Coleman currently sees patients in the UAMS Dermatology Clinic, located on the second floor of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. Her practice focuses on complex medical dermatology, with specific expertise in treating connective tissue diseases and hidradenitis suppurativa. She also manages psoriasis, autoimmune blistering diseases, and cutaneous lymphoma. For patients requiring general care, Coleman treats common conditions such as acne vulgaris and atopic dermatitis. Access to her clinic requires a referral.

Sara Shalin, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the dermatology department, stated that Coleman’s background will support the department's goals for patient care. "Her prior experience and interest in complex medical dermatology, including hidradenitis suppurativa and cutaneous lymphoma, will enable us to continue to provide thoughtful and compassionate care to patients with significant skin disease," Shalin said. The chair also noted Coleman’s enthusiasm for both clinical work and academic mentorship.

Beyond clinical duties, Coleman is involved in the education of medical residents and students. She provides guidance on the application process for dermatology residency programs. Her academic path included a dermatology residency at the University of Vermont. Coleman earned her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine in 2019, where she conducted research in onco-dermatology as a research assistant in the dermatology department. During her undergraduate studies at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, she majored in sociology and anthropology and played for the women’s varsity soccer team.

UAMS is the only health sciences university in Arkansas. The institution operates a statewide health system known as UAMS Health, which includes hospitals in Little Rock and Bryant, an orthopaedic hospital, and affiliated facilities in Pine Bluff, Helena-West Helena, Mena, and Warren. UAMS also maintains regional campuses in Fayetteville and other parts of the state. The university serves as the state’s only adult Level 1 trauma center and employs approximately 12,000 people, including 1,200 physicians. It enrolls 3,813 students and 1,030 medical residents and fellows.
