The tension at the Washington Wizards game on Oct. 21 turned physical when a woman in the stands threw her remaining beer at a heckler. The incident led to the removal of Britt McHenry from her post as a press adviser in the Trump administration’s State Department.

McHenry, a former ESPN and Fox News Media personality, detailed the sequence of events in a social media video released on Wednesday. She stated the trouble began when a man in the crowd called Winnie Harlow, the girlfriend of a Wizards player, “hideous” because of her vitiligo skin pigmentation.

According to McHenry, she stepped in to defend Harlow, a woman she described as someone many young girls look up to. Another man in the group then told her to “shut the fuck up, dumb bitch.” The original instigator escalated the verbal abuse by threatening her with “gang rape.”

McHenry said she threw the rest of her beer in the direction of the “main agitator” after he suggested she should be sexually assaulted outside. She turned to her friend Drew, who had bought the tickets, and told him to leave. The man was ejected from the arena, and McHenry departed shortly after.

Footage captured by TMZ last week shows McHenry flicking the beer behind her while onlookers shout. As she walks up the stairs, members of the crowd toss towels and other debris at her. She blows kisses while ascending. In the arena lobby, a security guard points her toward the exit while she asks, “What did I do?”

Page Six reported on Oct. 23 that McHenry was forced to resign following the promotion she accepted in September. In her written statement, McHenry confirmed her dismissal and said she believed in standing up to harassment. Her account largely aligns with earlier media reports regarding the dispute.

The former broadcast journalist concluded her video by saying she was sticking up for herself as well as Harlow. She remains a figure of interest in the administration following the loss of her role.
