Leonel Jesus Galvan Hernandez surrendered to Austin police on Monday, October 26, after being identified as the suspect in a Sunday afternoon shooting and kidnapping at The Domain. The arrest concludes the immediate search for the man accused of wounding a pedestrian and seizing a companion.
Officers arrived at a parking lot at 3311 Esperanza Crossing at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, following reports of gunfire. They found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Medics transported him to a hospital where he was treated for life-threatening injuries. His condition has since improved to stable.
Investigators say the victim and a woman were walking through the lot when Hernandez, a known acquaintance, approached them. He fired his weapon at the man and then coerced the woman into his vehicle. Police recovered the woman unharmed after she was forced into the car.
Travis County Jail records show Hernandez booked on four counts: two for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one for aggravated kidnapping, and one for aggravated robbery. The charges reflect the specific actions taken against the two victims in the parking lot.
The Austin Police Department classified the event as an isolated incident. Officers stated there is no ongoing threat to the public. The Aggravated Assault Unit continues the investigation and accepts tips at 512-974-5177.
