Jay-Z will serve as the main performer for the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show. The NFL and Apple Music revealed the news on social media during Monday night's game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. The announcement confirmed reports first shared by Puck, which cited industry sources regarding the artist's upcoming role.

The performance is scheduled for February 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The event, known as Super Bowl 61, will air on ESPN, ABC, and Disney+. Mobile viewers can watch the broadcast through the NFL+ app. This marks the first time the 25-time Grammy winner will headlinethe show in over a decade, shifting his role from curator to performer.

Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, has been heavily involved with the event in recent years. His company, Roc Nation, has partnered with the NFL to produce the halftime show since 2019. During that period, he helped select the artists who performed. Last year, he served as a producer for Bad Bunny's set, which earned seven Creative Arts Emmy Awards, the most for any halftime show in history.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell issued a statement regarding the decision. He noted that when Roc Nation first agreed to produce the show, he asked for Jay-Z to perform on the stage one day. Goodell said he was excited for fans to experience the artist's work on the world's biggest stage.

The news comes as Jay-Z finishes his 30 Tour. This tour celebrated the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt. He completed his final two concerts at SoFi Stadium, the same venue where he will perform next year. During the tour, he stopped in Paris, London, and New York City, bringing guests such as his wife, Beyoncé.

It remains undecided whether Beyoncé or other collaborators will appear in the halftime set. Past headliners have taken different approaches. The Weeknd and Rihanna performed solo, while Bad Bunny featured Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. Kendrick Lamar, who headlined in 2025, also received an Emmy for his performance. Jay-Z, who received his third Emmy for producing last year's show, said the experience of moving from his debut album to the Super Bowl stage has been a dream come true.

Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of music and international content, described the upcoming performance as incredible. He stated that Jay-Z's impact on global music culture is profound and undeniable.
