New Hampshire Candidate Cites 43% Poll as China Influence Warning
Lily Tang Williams argues that a rising acceptance of socialism and Democratic control of Congress will allow Beijing to expand its reach in Washington.

Forty-three percent of Americans now hold a positive view of socialism, a figure Lily Tang Williams cited in a warning that Beijing is poised to exploit Democratic gains in the 120th Congress. The Republican nominee for New Hampshire's 2nd Congressional District told Fox News Digital that this shift marks the first time since 2010 that such a majority supports the ideology.
Williams, who fled China after the Tiananmen Square massacre, stated that the Chinese Communist Party views Democratic control of both the House and Senate as favorable news for its strategic interests. She said China wants to bring down the United States and will take advantage of what she described as America's weakness if Democrats hold power in January. "I fear that the country I love is becoming the country I left," she said.
The candidate pointed to a recent trip by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) as evidence of Beijing's influence. She claimed that more than a dozen high-ranking DSA members traveled to China to produce favorable coverage of the regime. Williams argued that the Chinese government is using a vulnerable Democratic Party to promote itself in the United States because the two groups share a similar ideology.
She also linked Democratic immigration policies to national security risks, suggesting that open borders make it easier for Chinese intelligence operatives to enter the country. Williams warned of potential espionage along the southern border and noted that at least six new DSA-affiliated lawmakers could join Congress in January. "Congress will be controlled by people who sympathize with the CCP and its Marxist principles," she warned.
Williams criticized her opponent, Rep. Maggie Goodlander, for refusing to condemn Marxism and Marxist figures like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. She argued that moderate Democrats are increasingly siding with the party's progressive wing. "The Democrat Party is hijacked by the DSA," Williams said, predicting a DSA-run Congress regardless of whether moderates hold leadership posts.
The nominee raised concerns that lawmakers sympathetic to Marxist ideology could access sensitive or classified information, creating internal national security risks. She stated that the country could fall from within due to a lack of protective policies. Goodlander, the DSA, and the Democratic Party did not respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
The election for New Hampshire's 2nd Congressional District is scheduled for November 3, 2026. The result will determine the district's representation in the 120th Congress, which convenes in January 2027.
