WalletHub placed Texas in the eighth position out of 50 states for finding employment. The analysis evaluated 34 indicators related to job market strength and general economic health across the country.

The report identified Texas as the second best economic environment in the nation. However, the state ranked 25th for its specific job market conditions. Texas also secured the second highest monthly average starting salary. This financial advantage came with a tradeoff, as the state ranked 48th for the amount of time employees spend working.

Labor data from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas indicates that hiring has lost momentum. Luis Torres, a senior business economist at the Dallas Fed, noted that Texas employment dropped in September. He stated that year-to-date job growth slowed to 0.8 percent, a figure well below the state historical average of 2 percent.

The latest Texas Employment Forecast projects a 0.9 percent increase in jobs for 2026. This prediction represents a decrease from the forecast issued in the previous month. The report estimates that total employment will reach 14.5 million by December. The statewide unemployment rate remains fixed at 4.4 percent.

The Texas Workforce Commission reported that the state added 154,300 non-farm jobs over the past year. This growth rate outpaced the national average by 0.8 percent. However, monthly figures show mixed results. While 15,800 people entered the workforce in September, the state simultaneously lost 18,900 jobs during that same period.
