Bangladesh lost seven wickets for 59 runs in the morning session on Thursday, a collapse that left the team dismissed for 272 in the first day of the test match against the West Indies.
The batting side resumed play at 231-3 but crumbled under pressure from West Indies spinners. Left-armer Jomel Warrican claimed five wickets for 53 runs, while debutant Joshua Bishop took two wickets for 61 runs.
Warrican finished with a fourth career five-wicket haul in test cricket. He dismissed Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam to end Bangladesh's innings, with Liton Das remaining not out on 34.
The collapse began when Shadman Islam reached his third test century off 221 balls. He was on 99 overnight but was dismissed by Bishop, who reviewed the decision to secure his first test wicket. Bishop followed immediately with the wicket of Towhid Hridoy.
Warrican then turned the ball sharply to remove Mehidy Hasan for 15. Pacer Shamar Joseph took two wickets for 41 runs, dismissing Nayeem Hasan and Hasan Murad. Bangladesh lost its last five wickets for just 19 runs.
The West Indies made a strong start to their innings but faced resistance from Bangladesh spinners. John Campbell scored 54, reaching his sixth test fifty by hitting a six off Mehidy Hasan through long on.
Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan took four wickets in quick succession, reducing the West Indies to 134-4 in 48 overs. Bad light and rain ended play early, with Tagenarine Chanderpaul unbeaten on 43 and Justin Greaves at the other end.
