Texas football fans will see its top sack leader back on the field this weekend. Colin Simmons, who led the SEC in sacks this season, is listed as questionable for Saturday night's game against Mississippi State. The defensive end missed the previous Saturday's 34-27 victory over Ole Miss with a sprained right ankle.
The injury report released on Wednesday indicates Simmons may be available for the upcoming matchup. His return would bolster a defense that has been performing well this season.
Three offensive players also received positive news. Running back Hollywood Smothers is probable to play after missing the Ole Miss game with a shoulder injury. Wide receivers Kaliq Lockett and Cam Coleman are also listed as probable. Lockett sat out the previous game entirely, while Coleman left the field in the third quarter due to a shoulder issue.
One key lineman will remain absent. Left tackle Trevor Goosby was ruled out for Saturday's game. He was carted off the field in the first quarter of the win over Ole Miss with a left-knee injury and did not return to the game.
The Longhorns enter the contest looking for a second consecutive win in the conference. Kickoff at Royal-Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
