Houston Astros owner Jim Crane announced Friday evening that Randy Flores has been hired as the team's new general manager. The appointment follows the late August departure of Dana Brown, leaving the front office leadership vacant for two months.

Flores, 51, joins the Astros after spending seven years with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He served as the team's Director of Scouting from 2015 to 2019 before becoming an Assistant General Manager. He held that executive role until 2026. Before his front office career, Flores played professional baseball for eight seasons as a left-handed pitcher. He pitched for the Cardinals, Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, and Minnesota Twins before retiring in 2012.

Following his playing career, Flores joined the University of Southern California baseball coaching staff in 2013. He returned to the Cardinals in 2015, where he remained through 2019. His transition to the assistant general manager position occurred in 2019, a role he held for the next six years.

Crane praised Flores' experience in scouting and player acquisition during the hiring process. "Throughout the entire interview process, we've been thoroughly impressed with Randy and his background in scouting and player acquisition," Crane said. The owner expressed eagerness to begin working toward another championship for Houston.

Flores acknowledged the Cardinals' support in his development. "I am excited and grateful for this amazing opportunity," Flores said. He noted the Astros' winning tradition under Crane and stated he looks forward to contributing to the team's success.

Flores and Crane will hold a joint press conference at 10 a.m. Monday at Daikin Park. This event will mark Flores' first public appearance as the Astros' general manager.
