BMK Pharma has started construction on a new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Allen. The project is valued at approximately $50 million and will combine sterile drug production, pharmaceutical development, and contract manufacturing services in one location. The site is located near the intersection of Exchange Parkway and U.S. Highway 75.
The company targets a completion date for the facility in the summer of 2027. Once operational, the site will function as a 503B outsourcing facility. This designation permits the production of compounded medications in large batches for hospitals, clinics, and other medical institutions. The operation will fall under the oversight of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and must follow current Good Manufacturing Practices.
Dr. Jay Bhaumik, the founder of BMK Pharma, said the company selected Allen because of the opportunities the city offers. In a statement, Bhaumik described Allen as a key location for the company's future operations. He expressed the intent to continue investing in the area.
The new plant will focus heavily on sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing, with a specific emphasis on injectable medications and other dosage forms. The company plans to use automation and advanced manufacturing technologies to improve efficiency and precision. BMK Pharma will also offer contract development and manufacturing organization services. This model allows other pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms to use BMK's production capabilities without building their own infrastructure.
The project is expected to create more than 100 specialized jobs in the community. These positions will cover fields including chemistry, engineering, automation, pharmacy, research, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The Allen Economic Development Corporation cited the city's skilled workforce, favorable business environment, and local support as reasons for the company's choice of location.
Company representatives, Allen Mayor Chris Schulmeister, and local economic development leaders visited the construction site on October 1 to mark its progress. The expansion aligns with Allen's strategy to attract advanced manufacturing and technology businesses. While the construction target is summer 2027, the company has not yet set a specific date for the start of manufacturing operations.
