Jay-Z will headline the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show.
The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced the lineup on Monday night. The performance is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. This date falls roughly four months after the current Super Bowl cycle concludes.
The announcement came with a promotional video showing Jay-Z seated in the empty stadium. He was surrounded by goats, accompanied by the caption "GOAT's out of the bag." The visual served as a pun on the acronym for greatest of all time, a phrase often used to describe top athletes and entertainers.
This decision marks a reversal for the rapper, who is professionally known as Shawn Carter. In 2019, when his company Roc Nation began a partnership with the league to advise on halftime productions, Jay-Z told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell that he did not intend to perform. He stated, "If this is about me performing at the Super Bowl, then we can just end this conversation now." Seven years later, that conversation has ended with a booking.
The 2027 performance will cap off a major touring cycle. Jay-Z recently finished his "Jay-Z 30" concerts in Southern California. The tour started with three shows at Yankee Stadium in New York, moved to London, and concluded in the Los Angeles area over the weekend. The stadium where he performed his final tour dates is the same venue selected for the Super Bowl halftime set.
Since his 2019 agreement with the NFL, other artists have taken the stage. Recent halftime headliners have included Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd. Jay-Z joins this list of major musical acts selected for the league's most watched entertainment slot.
The musician has accumulated 25 Grammy Awards from 89 nominations. His total nominations rank second in history, behind only his wife, Beyoncé. He was the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 and entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. His debut album, "Reasonable Doubt," was added to the Grammy Hall of Fame last year. His career also includes co-founding Roc-A-Fella Records and establishing Roc Nation in 2008 as a management and publishing firm.
Following similar high-profile performances in recent years, artists have seen immediate spikes in streaming data. For example, after the previous year's halftime show, Bad Bunny held the top six spots on Spotify's Top 50 U.S. chart the next morning, with another song at No. 8 and eleven total tracks in the top 50. Jay-Z's upcoming appearance is expected to generate similar metrics in February 2027.
