Arch Manning finished the first half with 24 rushing yards, a team-high total for Texas, despite suffering a cut on his right hand during the second quarter of Saturday’s game against Mississippi State.

The injury occurred at the conclusion of a 10-yard scramble. Mississippi State defender Bralan Womack drew a personal foul penalty on the play. Manning was sent to the sideline by a referee and received immediate attention from a trainer before returning to the field without missing a snap.

After having his hand taped, Manning completed two passes and secured another first down with a 6-yard run. These plays were part of a 13-play scoring drive that ended with a 45-yard field goal by Gianni Spetic, extending the Longhorns’ lead to 10-0.

Earlier in the same drive, Manning lost his helmet after a hit from Mississippi State edge rusher Amaree Williams. Team rules required him to leave the field for one play, during which backup quarterback KJ Lacey handed the ball off to Raleek Brown.

Manning threw for 89 yards and one touchdown in the first half. He completed seven of his 10 pass attempts. Texas entered the halftime break with a 17-0 lead.
