More than 1,000 pages of unredacted communications between the office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott and billionaire Elon Musk will be available for review by Democratic challenger State Rep. Gina Hinojosa. A Travis County judge issued the ruling on Monday, granting Hinojosa access to the documents as she seeks to examine the relationship between the governor and the tech executive.

Hinojosa has pursued these records since September. She alleges that Abbott directed a $100 million state contract to a company owned by Musk shortly after Musk contributed $500,000 to Abbott’s campaign. The court’s decision did not establish those specific allegations, but it confirmed Hinojosa’s right to inspect the materials in her capacity as a state legislator. The ruling does not automatically mandate the public release of the documents.

Abbott’s legal team has appealed the decision, describing Hinojosa’s lawsuit as politically motivated. In a video shared on social media, Hinojosa responded to the governor’s initial refusal to share the files. “He denied these, saying they are intimate and embarrassing,” she said.

The legal dispute unfolds as candidates intensify their final days of campaigning. Abbott joined Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton at a rally in Wichita Falls on Monday. Abbott urged supporters to vote for Republican candidates across the ballot. “Are you ready to keep Texas red? Are you gonna vote Republican from the top to bottom?” he asked the crowd. “And if you do so, you are going to keep Texas, Texas.”

Paxton used the event to criticize his Democratic opponent, James Talarico, arguing that Talarico’s political positions are too liberal for the state. Talarico campaigned in El Paso on the same day, targeting Paxton’s political record. “We are running against the embodiment of this corrupt system,” Talarico told supporters. “We are running against the most corrupt politician in Texas.”

President Donald Trump is scheduled to return to Texas on Tuesday, October 27, to support Republican candidates. He will deliver remarks in Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. and hold a second appearance in Lubbock later that evening. Early voting continues through Friday, October 30, with the general election set for Tuesday, November 3.
